Cole and Luca
Funny how the truest friendships show up in the most unlikely places. @cole.vanowen@luca.a.bennett
A senior captain who keeps everything in its place.
A freshman who never asks for more than he’s given.
It didn’t start as a friendship.
It started with Cole watching Luca from across the pool, lap after lap, and losing his mind about it. The captain who never lost control of anything couldn’t stop looking.
Then it turned into something neither of them would put a name on and a door that closed quietly. Nobody on the team ever knew.
And somewhere in all of that, it became this.
Two guys who actually like each other as friends. Who laugh at the same dumb things. Who show up when it matters.
Nobody saw this one coming. Least of all them.
Season 2 of Varsity Nights Coming October 1.

No response needed, i will just say i dont understand this. Mostly because i dont see how the timing works for them to reach this stage after a curt message regarding merry christmas. What happened between 12/26 and 1/10 that this coule be accomplished? 15 days?
Arby says:
The feed isn’t the timeline. Social posts aren’t in episode order and never have been. They’re teasers, single frames made to give you a look at these guys, not a sequence you can date.
So there’s nothing to reconcile with December 26. That image isn’t claiming to happen fifteen days after a text message. It’s a Season 2 teaser, and Season 2 starts Thursday.
KY says:
If their physical relationship continues, it cannot be called truest friendships.
They are physically close together, so I cannot accept this as truest friendships.
In these images, the bed sheets are neat, and what Luca is holding appears to be a bottle of water (?), not a bottle of lube.
But look at the poses of Luca and Cole in the three images.
They are the same poses Luca and Eli, and Luca and Noah, had when they were cuddling.
To be honest,
I cannot sympathize with them at all.
KY says:
Unlike when Luca takes this pose with Eli or Noah, there might be points raised such as while Cole is hugging Luca from behind, from Luca’s side, with only a happy expression, he is not trying to hug Cole back from his own side, or that one should look closely at the direction of their gazes.
I also looked at those aspects carefully.
However, even so, I do not find convincingness.
This is because I believe that if Luca and Cole’s relationship is one of the truest friendships, such close contact of their bare upper bodies would not be necessary.
Arby says:
You’re describing a rule: that two people can’t hold friendship and the physical in the same hands. Fair. Plenty of people live by that rule. Cole and Luca are about to test it, and the test is the season.
What you’re looking at is a teaser. It shows you where they land, not how they get there, and I’d be worried if an ending convinced you before the road did. Nothing about these two is asking you to take it on faith today.
The poses you matched, you matched correctly. The frames are allowed to say what the two of them won’t yet. Keep reading them that way.
Kai says:
This all very well if you look at their relationship in isolation, but Eli might not view it so innocently. Even though Eli’s said the relationship with Luca is one of “friends with benefits”, we know his attachment to Luca a bit more than that and might feel Luca/Cole budding friendship is a threat. After he was thrown off his intention to invite Luca home for winter break by discovering Luca and Cole in an embrace, might he now think Luca and Cole are romantically involved. Will he seek solace elsewhere – there are other fish in the sea after all? We became invested in the Luca/Eli relationship through season 1, but beginnings can be delicate things. Is a metaphorical line going to be drawn on the floor between their two halves of their shared room and will that be one of the reasons he may spend more time with Cole, in his room.
Arby says:
For what it’s worth, Eli never calls it friends with benefits. His words were “Best friends do stuff sometimes, right?” He won’t even give it that much of a name.
